The End of a Busy Season

My schedule lately has been filled to the brim with sorting through the immense amount of stuff I brought home from college, donating things I no longer need/want, preparing for the life of a graduate student, shopping for the essentials for my new apartment, and helping my family prepare for my brother’s upcoming high school graduation festivities. To say I am overwhelmed would be an understatement, but I am someone who likes to stay busy and works well under pressure, so somehow, I seem to always find myself in these situations. I will say, however, that I am glad to be finished with a very busy season, as exciting and successful as it was.

Spring is always expected to be busy for us portrait photographers because of all of the seniors who book sessions and are excited to receive their finished galleries quickly so that they can share them on social media in popular weekly “Senior Sunday” posts, send them to friends and family, and get them printed for memory’s sake. Though this is my favorite time of year, it is a whirlwind of organized chaos. Because of the fact that I was also a senior this season, who was finishing up her undergraduate career and balancing honors research, the graduate school application process, and all of the “lasts” that come with senior year, this season was twice as busy for me.

With all of the things loading up my recently packed schedule, the last thing I expected was to do was cram another senior session into the mix before moving into my new apartment. But here we are! As I mentioned before, my younger brother is graduating from high school in a few days, and though we had already done a full senior session back in the fall, he (along with my very excited mother) was asking for pictures with his guitar. I am a sucker for props in shoots, so naturally, I stood no chance against the request. I immediately started brainstorming locations, and we ended up at one of my favorite parks near home. The photos turned out beautifully, and I am so excited to have gotten these done before his graduation party this weekend! Props make everything better, so for my current and future clients, NEVER be shy to bring props to your shoots! They allow for so much creativity and fun, and I also love hearing about the stories about what special meanings they have!

Enjoy some of the photos from this shoot, and feel free to contact me with any questions about ideas for props if you are thinking about using them in future shoots!!
